Psychiatry at The Place is not a visiting consultant arrangement. Embedded, end-to-end clinical leadership, from first assessment through to life after departure, held within a program that also draws on the full healing wisdom of East and West.

East-West integration at clinical depth

“Clinical excellence is not a feature we offer. It is the architecture everything else is built upon, and within that architecture, the full healing wisdom of East and West can do its deepest work.”

The clinical arc

From first conversation to life beyond the retreat

Four stages of embedded psychiatric oversight, each formally documented

Some luxury wellness retreats include a therapist. A rare few include a psychotherapist. The Place Retreats is among an even smaller global cohort to embed full psychiatric governance into every stage of a guest’s journey; the only such facility to combine it with the healing wisdom of East and West at genuine depth.
01 · Before arrival

Psychiatric intake assessment

Structured clinical assessment evaluating history, current presentation, risk profile, and therapeutic goals, before your program is designed.
02 · During your stay

Ongoing psychiatric oversight

Weekly structured psychiatric reviews to continuously adapt your program across both Western and Eastern modalities in response to your clinical evolution.
03 · After departure

Discharge letters & aftercare

A formal written discharge letter with post-treatment recommendations and a bespoke aftercare pathway, The Continuum, to ensure clinical continuity at home.
04. Co-leadership

Dual MD governance

Psychiatrist and Clinical Manager, both Medical Doctors, co-lead the entire medical and therapeutic department. All programs and selected Eastern modalities are individually tailored to your needs.

In-House Psychiatrist · Co-Lead, Medical & Therapeutic Department
Dr. Monika Joy Reverger, Sp.KJ is The Place Retreats’ in-house Psychiatrist and co-leads the medical and therapeutic department alongside our Clinical Manager. She conducts structured psychiatric intake assessments for every guest, provides ongoing clinical oversight throughout each stay, and issues formal discharge letters with personalised post-treatment recommendations and aftercare pathways.
She holds privileges at Bali’s esteemed Siloam Hospital, completed her psychiatric specialist training at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Medicine, and is a member of both the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) and the Indonesian Association of Mental Medicine Specialists (PDSKJI).

Her role in the East-West program

Dr Monika’s psychiatric oversight extends across the full program, not just the Western clinical sessions. She reviews how guests are responding to Eastern modalities, Qigong, acupuncture, breathwork, and Balinese ceremonies, and uses those observations to inform care plan adjustments. The clinical and holistic approaches are not separate streams. They are one integrated program, held in medical governance.

Why this matters for healing

Clinical settings rarely integrate genuine Eastern practice at depth. Wellness retreats rarely have embedded psychiatric governance. The Place does both simultaneously. When a somatic session opens something that needs clinical support, the psychiatrist is there. When the clinical work reaches a limit, the Eastern modalities provide access at a different level.
